Assateague Sunrise

12 Days of Summer Camping

In a period of a little over three weeks from the end of July into August I was able to spend 12 days outside camping.  I was able to spend time in upstate NY, Maryland, and Virginia with family, friends, and our Scout Troop over the course of three great campouts.

Besides spending some much needed time outdoors enjoying some great company and relieving stress, I was also able to try out some new gear, see some new places, and now I’ve got some camping stories and gear reviews to share here with everyone.  One of the campgrounds we stayed at is a place I’ve been wanting to visit for quite a while, Assateague Island. We camped in the Assateague Island State Park, which was a great experience.

I’ve also found that I am having more problems with my knees this summer due to arthritis.  It’s making tent camping a little more of a challenge than it used to be, but it didn’t stop these trips.  It’s a new development as I age, and will probably require some changes in how I camp over the next few years, but that will be OK.

The Assateague trip included a side trip to Fredericksburg, VA.  I’ll have a couple of campground reviews to publish soon, and maybe a trip itinerary if anyone would find that interesting or helpful.

Hopefully you all are having a great summer so far, and have been able to get outdoors.  Fall camping is right around the corner, but there’s still some summer weather left. So get outside, enjoy some food, campfires, and most of all, time with friends!
